2020 Travelers Championship Rankings, Course Preview, Player Field and Targets from Each Range

Jun 24, 2020

The Travelers at TPC River Highlands is going to be another tournament packed with elite talent like it has never seen before and should be another great one to watch unfold. This week’s field will feature 154 players, including nine of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). We will be welcoming back Patrick Cantlay who has back to back T-15 finishes at the Travelers Championship. Another big-name player making his return this week is Paul Casey who has four top 5 finishes in the past five years.

TPC River Highlands is a Par 70 Pete Dye course with Bentgrass fairways, Poa greens and the distance 6,841 yards. Another course that allows the shorter hitters on tour to compete with the bombers. There are 8 Par 4s between 400-450 yards, 2 very gettable par 5s, and a drivable 293-yard par 4 we can expect to see some eagles on this weekend. The fairways at TPC River Highlands are hit more often than the average PGA Tour tracks. Although the course will allow the shorter hitters in the field to compete, I’m not saying the bombers can’t run away with it. If those guys can keep it out of the thick fescue rough they could be in position to have a lot of short irons and wedges into the green.

The conditions at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut look to be pretty calm this week. Temperatures in the high 70s low 80s with winds between 7-10 mph. There could be rain on the final afternoon but shouldn’t be anything too serious. Overall it looks like a great weekend of golf ahead.

Rory-McIlroy 2020 RBC Heritage

Rory Mcilroy

As long as Rory keeps getting cheaper and cheaper we are going to keep going back to him. He had a tough +1 start through round 1 of the RBC Heritage but it was great to see him bounce back on Friday, shooting a -6 65. He had to keep the driver in the bag for most of his tee shots, which is usually the ignitor of his game. We will be seeing the big stick back in his hand this week on the second shortest course on tour. The world number 1 player looks to be in shape for a huge bounce-back week and we expect him to win if he’s making his putts. According to fantasy national over the last 50 rounds: he’s number 1 in the field in Strokes Gained off the Tee, number 3 in ball striking, number 1 in strokes gained on Par 4’s ranging from 400-450 yards, number 1 in strokes gained on Par 5’s, number 6 in eagles, and number 27 in strokes gained putting.

Patrick Cantlay

We welcome back another top 10 player in the world this week as number 9 Patrick Cantlay gets back to action. Cantlay has been a contender so many tournaments he’s played, dating back to the start of the 2019 season including a T-15 at this track in 2018 and 2019. Cantlay is a great ball striker and he comes in at number 6 in the field in that category over the last 50 rounds. TPC River Highlands is a second shot golf course and there’s not many better with an iron in hand than Cantlay. He is a bit riskier to play in DFS as this will be his first tournament back over the last three months. We believe he has worked on his game and should pick right back up where he left off before the pandemic.

Xander Schauffele

Xander is another guy coming off a slow start to last week’s tournament (shooting an opening-round score of +1). He fought back on Friday to make the cut right on the number. After a tough Saturday, he finished the RBC Heritage with a -5-final round. It’s rare to see Xander have 2 bad rounds in a tournament but seeing the way he bounced back with two -5 rounds both times it should give him momentum coming into this week. Xander is another great ball striker which proves to be a very important stat here at TPC River Highlands. Look for Xander near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.

Other Targets From This Range

Collin Morikawa : $9,100, Abraham Ancer : $9,000

$8,000 Range

Patrick Reed

Coming off the missed cut at the RBC Heritage we see Patrick Reed coming out firing ready to light it up! Four of the past seven winners here have won coming off a missed cut in their previous appearance and five of the six posted at least a top 30 in a previous year at the event. In 2019 Reed finished 30th, so if you believe in this sort of thing Reed could be destined to win this event! Reed leads the field over the last 50 rounds in Strokes gained on Par 4’s, and ranks 3rd in Strokes gained putting, a very important stat here at TPC River Highlands.

Other Targets From This Range

Sungjae Im : $8,600, Gary Woodland : $8,300, Paul Casey : $8,900

$7,000 Range

Joaquin Niemann

Niemann has come back from the break red hot! According to fantasy national over his last 8 rounds he ranks 10th in the field in Strokes Gained Approach, 7th in ball striking, 9th in strokes gained on 400-450-yard par 4s, 4th in all par 4’s, and 7th in eagles. We don’t see him slowing down this week as all those stats will prove to be important here at TPC River Highlands. Nieman is one of the best 2nd shot golfers as it is and when you add in the momentum, he’s feeling from last week he’s definitely a contender to win here. The course should play perfectly for his game, and if he can get hot with his putter, he’ll be in the hunt come late Sunday afternoon.

Other Targets From This Range

Victor Hovland : $7,800, Scottie Scheffler : $7,600, Brian Harman : $7,600, Billy Horschel : $7,300, Jason Day : $7,500, Ian Poulter : $7,800, Shane Lowry : $7,100

$6,000 Range

Vaughn-Taylor-Travelers Championship rank fantasy sports

Vaughn Taylor

Vaughn Taylor has opened each of the first two tournaments back from the break strong! Although he had a tough Friday missing the cut at the Charles Schwab. He performed well at the RBC Heritage last week while finishing at a T-52, shooting -9 for the week. Bring him back to TPC River Highlands where he finished in 4th place a year ago and he could be in for a big week. No, the field was not nearly as stacked last year as it will be this year but with the way he’s playing right now, we expect big things this weekend. Vaughn is another guy that can really do great things with his putter, so if he finds some success early with the flat stick, he could ride that confidence all the way through Sunday.

Other Targets From This Range

Matthew Nesmith : $6,600, Cameron Tringale : $6,300, Carlos Ortiz : $6,800, Harry Higgs : $6,400, Partick Rodgers : $6,900, Sebastian Munoz : $6,800, Wyndham Clark : $6,500, Brice Garnett : $6,600, Cameron Percy : $6,200, Lanto Griffin : $6,300, Matt Wallace : $6,700, Brendan Steel : $6,600, Doc Redman : $6,700, Russell Knox : $6,700, Ryan Moore : $6,900, Brian Stuard : $6,100
