3M Open Rankings, Course Preview, Player Field and Targets from Each Range

Jul 21, 2020

The PGA heads to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities! This is the second year of the tournament’s existence, where Matthew Wolff will try to defend his title! He was making just his 3rd start of his young career and drilled a long eagle putt from off the green on the final hole of the tournament to clinch his first victory on the PGA Tour. This will be the weakest field we’ve seen since the restart, consisting of 156 players, and only 2 of them ranked inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). We will see the return of number 12 ranked Tommy Fleetwood for the first time since the pandemic as he looks to get his first PGA Tour victory and has a great chance to do so. His game still seems to be sharp, as he shot a 64 at Shinnecock Hills over the weekend per twitter. We aren’t completely deprived of top end talent, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau, Paul Casey and Bubba Watson will also be making the trip to Minneapolis.

TPC Twin Cities will play as a Par-71 7,481-yard Bent grass track, with water on just about every hole. If you can avoid the water hazards, these guys can score extremely low, as we saw last year with 4 62s. You’re going to want to pad your lineups with great ball strikers. Hit the fairways, hit the greens and score low. The Par 5s are very gettable at this track, as all 3 of them were giving up eagles at a rate higher than 1.7 % a year ago. The fairways and greens here at TPC Twin Cities are hit more often than the average PGA tour tracks, but you can find some trouble with all the water, fairway bunkers and long thick rough.

The conditions at TPC Twin Cities in Minneapolis look to be nice for the most part. The temperatures will be in the 70s in the mornings and high 80s- low 90s in the afternoons. The wind will be somewhat of a factor, blowing 10-15 mph. There is a 30 % chance of rain of Friday, and a 40 % chance on Sunday, hopefully we can get through with no stoppages in play!

Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka needs to win and needs to win soon to ensure he can lock in a spot in the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs. We’ve been hearing rumors that his knee is still a little bit messed up, but he has shown flashes of the Brooks Koepka we all know in the past few tournaments. Expect to see 4 rounds of Brooks Koepka wanting to prove something on a course that he could go extremely low on! We don’t expect the ownership to be very high on Brooks this week with his spike in price, his “hurt” knee and his round of 80 on Sunday at The Memorial. Brooks is a phenomenal ball striker, he can crush it off the tee, his irons and wedges have just been slightly off this season, but we trust in Brooks to get them dialed in this weekend! According to Fantasy National Golf Club over the last 50 rounds, Brooks ranks 4th in strokes gained total, 23rd in Ball Striking, 12th in strokes gained off the tee and 38th in strokes gained putting. As long as he gets back to hitting his irons like we know he can, there’s no reason he can’t win this tournament with one of the weakest fields we’ve seen!

Tony Finau : $10,900, Dustin Johnson : $11,500, Tommy Fleetwood : $10,500

Harris English

Harris English added another impressive finish to his already impressive season, finishing 13th at the Memorial! He gained strokes in every major category last week on one of the toughest set ups I’ve ever seen at a golf tournament! Don’t expect English to slow down here at TPC Twin Cities, on paper he looks to be the perfect play this week! According to Fantasy National over the last 50 rounds he ranks 1st in strokes gained total, 6th in strokes gained tee to green, 8th in ball striking, 10th in strokes gained off the tee, 16th in strokes gained approach and 8th in strokes gained putting! DraftKings pricing is tough this week, but we suggest English as a lock in the majority of lineups! This could be the week he finally breaks through with a win for the first time since 2013! Even if he doesn’t win, expect to see him in the hunt on Sunday!

Erik Van Rooyen

The former Minnesota Golden Gopher has been a popular name coming into this week in the betting world. EVR is one of Rank Fantasy Sports favorite plays most weeks, because he usually comes with a pretty cheap price tag! He should still be worth the $8,800 price you have to pay this week! The only stat categories he really struggles with proved to be the least important categories in last years tournament: strokes gained putting and strokes gained around the green. According to fantasy national over the last 50 rounds, he ranks 6th in stokes gained total, 5th in tee to green, 12th off the tee, 8th in approach, and 5th in ball striking. EVR is another guy that impressed last week at a tough Memorial Tournament, and as he heads back to a place he spent his college years he should build on that this week! He might be chalky, but we think he will be worth the chalk!

Brian Harman : $8,000, Sam Burns : $8,500, Doc Redman : $8,700

$7,000 Range

cameron tringale Rank Fantasy Sports

Cameron Tringale

Cameron Tringale is a fantastic iron player, which is going to be the most important thing here at TPC Twin Cities! He played great a couple weeks ago at the Rocket Mortgage, except a couple of blow up holes which probably cost him a top 10 finish. TPC Twin Cities has a lot of correlation to Detroit Golf Club and we expect Tringale to be able to make another run here like he did a couple weeks ago. His 7,200 price is truly a bargain in this field because if he gets hot, he’s a guy that could be in contention! According to Fantasy National, over the last 50 rounds vs this field, he ranks 12th in strokes gained approach, 12th in strokes gained tee to green, 25th  in ball striking, and 42nd in putting. Tringale has never won on tour but is a cut making machine.

Other Targets From This Range

Richy Werenski : $7,400, Chase Seiffert : $7,000, Charles Howell III : $7,400, Scott Stallings : $7,600, Scott Piercy : $7,000

$6,000 Range

Brice Garnett rank fantasy sports

Brice Garnett

Brice Garnett gains a lot of strokes off the tee because he’s so accurate, which will prove to be a crucial factor this week with all the fairway bunkers and water hazards. He hits fairways and he hits greens in regulation, and gains strokes putting. Garnett should be a safe bet to make the cut this week, which is a tough thing to find in this field at this price point. According to fantasy national over the past 50 rounds, Garnett ranks 32nd in ball striking, 19th off the tee, and 24th in putting!

Other Targets From This Range

Seamus Power : $6,500, Vaughn Tayolor : $6,800, Johnson Wagner : $6,600, Matthew NeSmith : $6,900, Hudson Swafford : $6,700, Cameron Davis : $6,500, Danny Lee : $6,700, Cameron Percy : $6,500
